Snowmen rice crispy treats

Photo from Love Create Celebrate
I was sure I had already written this post, but it seems to have disappeared, so I'll try again!  This is a sweet treat that would be fun for any winter occasion, not just Christmas.  The idea is from Lindi at Love Create Celebrate and you can find the link to the recipe and instructions here:  Rice Krispie Snowman Treats.

Basically, you make rice krispie treats pretty much as usual, then cut them into circle shapes.  Then you coat them in melted white chocolate and decorate with candies and chocolate chips.  Lindi made some of her snowmen with earmuffs, and some without.  They are cute either way!

A plateful of snowmen faces at any winter or Christmas gathering would be adorable.  And I think these would also be nice gifts for teachers, classmates, co-workers or friends, especially if the treats were packaged in those individual cookie packages.  They might make a cute stocking stuffer, too, if the stockings were hung somewhere away from a heat source so the white chocolate wouldn't melt.

Have fun with this idea!

A Christmas birdhouse

I was recently given this cute Christmas birdhouse ornament.  My mother-in-law found it somewhere -- probably at a thrift store or, more likely, the recycle area of her local dump.  I think it's very cute and will definitely make it a part of my Christmas and winter decorating this year.  I especially enjoy items featuring snowmen, snowflakes, icicles and so on because they can be left out and enjoyed all winter long!

Another favorite Christmas card!

Here is another very favorite card of mine. It was sent to us by our daughter and husband one year. It's so neat because her memories of winters past definitely did include building snowmen, skating fast, and sipping plenty of hot chocolate after both activities!

A favorite felt snowman ornament

I've mentioned before about the treasured antique ornaments given to me by a great-aunt. Still tucked into the ancient brown shoebox in which she gave them to me, they include colorful, tarnished glass balls, shiny cardboard reflectors to place on the old-fashioned colored lights, and some cute felt ornaments.

There are two of these snowmen, and I love them. They are made out of white felt in approximately the shape of a snowflake. Each snowman's head is a wood ball with painted features and a three-dimensional red nose, and they wear black top hats. They sport green collars and have red "berries" for hands and feet.

Right now, the winter/Valentine tree is still up -- we put it up for our family Christmas which we celebrated on Feb. 17. I've trimmed it with hearts, snowflakes, icicles, a sled or two, etc. -- and these two snowmen.

I feel so thankful to have had such very special ornaments passed down to me!
