Tentative baking list for 2018

So we woke up to several inches of wet snow on the ground this morning.  Usually on the day of the first significant snowfall, I will bake my first batch of Christmas cookies for the freezer.  Today, I just couldn't bring myself to do that.  November 13 seems just a bit early.

However, I did give a nod to Christmas baking in that I made my tentative Christmas baking list for 2018.

You see it below:

As you can see, I have nine different varieties of cookies on this list, and I will be making multiple batches of most of them.

On the reverse side of this paper, I have two more lists: one for kitchen gifts and one for candy that I hope to make.

As the season goes on, these tentative lists get tweaked.  Sometimes I change my mind; for example, on last year's list I had both gingerbread men and cutout cookies, but ended up not baking either one.  Or sometimes I end up adding a cookie or candy that I hadn't planned on making.  The point of a tentative list is just to have something specific to aim at.

So how about you?  Have you given any thought yet to your Christmas baking?

  1. Like you, I make lists. "Without a vision the people perish." (smile)

    1. Amen to that! Another of my favorites is "If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time"!

  2. I am not good with lists, but must write them now or I’d forget important things. I have a menu written for Thanksgiving and I wrote my shopping list from that. I hope not to be doing much baking for the holidays because I can’t eat it so shouldn’t be tempting myself. I only bake a little for the grandsons who do wish to find something in the cookie can. 🙂 You must gift a lot of your baking? I remember baking the eggnog logs last year...they were yummy!

    1. I now need to add a new recipe to this list. My friend @rachelmaebakes on Instagram bakes wonderful goodies for sale in her local area. She showed a lemon shortbread thumbprint with lemon curd and I was thrilled that she was willing to share the recipe with me. I make shortbread thumbprints with raspberry or apricot jam, but lemon ones with lemon curd? I simply must try!

I do gift a lot of my baking. I also take trays of Christmas cookies to any gathering we are invited to during the season, and have been known to take them to nursing homes and hospitals as well, for the staff.

  3. I have given it some thought... we're having our annual Cookie Day on 12/4 (all of the women in our family get together at one location and bake goodies, then exchange them)... but haven't made any decisions. Right now I'm busy decorating the house for Christmas. My son's family from Kansas is coming and we'll have Christmas with them while they're here.

    1. Oh, Cookie Day sounds fun, Vicki!

I'm taking down my fall decor today and trying to find time to put up a little bit of Christmas. Company coming for supper tomorrow night, so I need to change seasons quickly even though the tree, etc. are not up yet.
