As most readers know, I have a collection of vintage Christmas cards -- and I also have many, many more that I am gradually listing and selling in my Etsy shop. All that to say, I so appreciate vintage holiday cards. There is something so heartwarming about them. Tiny cards like the one above are especially sweet.
I usually display my vintage collection on a ribbon board in the front hallway
and nearly every card on it is smallish, but sometimes they get lost in the large display area. A card holder that would work well for only my small cards would be a nice idea.

It looks quick and easy (painting the clothespins might be the only time-consuming part) and uses easy to find components like a plastic charger and plate. I've seen nice looking chargers at the Dollar Tree, and Walmart has some super cute melamine plates this year. The image below is of a container for Christmas treats, but Walmart also has this design in plates -- as well as other cute ones like buffalo checks.
So there is a really fun idea! The old standby paper plate Christmas holder brought right up to date! I want to try making one of these -- how about you?

Lots of cute ideas...I struggle with Christmas card display. Usually, I land on placing them in a basket so anyone can pick them up and read the messages. Must get caught up here!
ReplyDeleteI usually tape our cards to the wood shingled walls in our front hallway each year. Placing them in a basket is a great idea and what my mother always did.

This sounds like it could be a good solution for your card display, Margie. It could be done with any colors or themes of plates.

DeleteYes, my collection has evolved over time. I received most of the cards for free, from people who knew I used them for crafting with students. Of course I would never cut up these lovely vintage cards!

The cookie containers come in three different sizes, I believe. The one in the photo is the largest one. I got the next smallest size, which came in a set of two.
DeleteI probably wouldn't have thought of swirling the Andes Mint myself, but it's just what my recipe calls for. My cookies are flatter and crisper but still very good.
I love vintage cards and inherited a few when my parents passed years ago. As much as I think it would be fun to receive one from someone else, I'm always a little afraid to send them along to others. Not sure they will appreciate them as I do. So, for now they sit in my box of cards, often passed over, but making me smile a bit inside every time I see them. I love how you have chosen to display them. You may give me ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I keep my vintage cards in a box too, but I usually bring them out to display seasonally. I think it's sad to have a gorgeous collection like that if no one ever sees it.
