And here is 2019's tentative Christmas candy list!

As I mentioned, on the reverse side of my Christmas cookie baking list I always make two more lists.  One of them is the tentative list of Christmas candies I want to make.

I come from a long line of Christmas candy makers.  My grandmother loved making the traditional Five-Minute Fudge, and made batches of it at the holidays -- both Christmas and Thanksgiving.  My mother, as I've said here many times, was locally famous for her delectable (but difficult) Maple Fudge.  (I'm sure you could easily find Five Minute Fudge with an internet search, and Maple Fudge can be found by doing a search here on the blog.)

I tend to make only a few kinds of candy at Christmas time, so my list is quite short.

Here's the list in case you can't read the one at top.  I'll include links too, along with a couple of photos.

Arlene’s Easy Fudge

Chocolate Dipped Orange Slices

Heavenly Delight

 Special Holiday Fudge

Date-Nut Casserole Cookies

These date balls I linked to above aren't really a cookie; they are more of a confection.  So that's why they're on the candy list rather than the cookie list!

And there you have it!   Of course,  you never know.  I've posted other fudge and candy recipes over the years that I just might be motivated to make for 2019.  That's why my lists are tentative!  They are subject to change as the season rolls along.

Happy candy making!

  1. I always make five minute fudge and when she was younger, my mother would make me a pan of brown sugar fudge. I am not able to stir very long so she took the chore off my hands for me. I sure do miss it and her! I used to make white almond bark and peanut brittle too. Those made wonderful gifts. All of your candy looks yummy, Mrs. T! Thanks for sharing at No Place Like Home and have a wonderful week! Blessings!

    1. Brown sugar fudge is quite finicky, it seems to me, and does indeed require a good bit of stirring at just the right moment. The same is true of my mother's Maple Fudge, which is why I have never even attempted to make it.

Thanks for hosting No Place Like Home. Such fun for the holiday season!

    1. Oh, Kitty, I wish you lived nearby! I would happily share some candy with you. Or, wouldn't it be fun to get together with the ladies who visit here and make some goodies together?!

  3. Hmmm...wonder what Kitty was trying to say! I know Kitty well enough to tease. 😉

You sure are organized. The only thing I know about either holiday is what kind of pie I’m making for Thanksgiving. I used to make candy for Christmas, but it is not appreciated in my crowd...they just don’t know what they’re missing. I want to try all of these!

    1. I think she was trying to say, "I'd love a piece of each of those."

Oh, I'm not as organized as all that. It's just that if I don't make lists, I'll forget.

I hope you DO try some of the recipes. You could maybe take some candy to the staff at the home where your sister-in-law is. Pretty sure *they'd* appreciate it even if your family doesn't!

  5. Your list looks so good. I especially like the name "Heavenly Delight" for the fudge. Your pictures make everything look like they are presented so sweetly!

    1. Isn't that a nice name, "Heavenly Delight"? If you look at the comment below, you will meet the person who gave it this name -- Esther, my daughters' college roommate! That was many years ago and now they are all moms with families of their own.

  6. Yay, there’s the heavenly delight!! Instantly I’m transported back to the college days and C & J getting their box from Mom T. Man, that stuff is good. I’ve made it several times - pretty sure it’s a must for this year.

  7. Isn't that fun how certain flavors (and sometimes even certain scents or aromas) can carry us back to a place in the past? As you can see, your sweet nickname for the fudge has stayed with it over time.

So glad you've made the fudge for your own family! I'm sure you're right that a batch (or 2) is in order for this year!
