If summer follows in spring's chilly footsteps, it's even possible we could have some snow this month. There was snow on Mother's Day weekend, so anything is now officially possible! History tells us that one year in New Hampshire, there was a frost in all twelve months. If we happen to get a cool evening in July, that would be a good time to try out a new cocoa recipe well in advance of Christmas hospitality.
This wonderful-looking hot cocoa recipe comes from
A Cultivated Nest and is for
Chocolate Cherry Hot Cocoa. It reminds me of the long-ago days when my mother would make hot cocoa for us and our friends after a chilly afternoon sledding out in the sloping fields of my childhood. She usually stirred it up from scratch in the same way that this recipe is made. We always had marshmallow fluff on our cocoa, however, which would be much too sweet in this recipe. The whipped cream is the perfect topper!
Why not give this recipe a try on a cool summer evening -- or just file it away until the holiday season? It would be a festive treat to share with friends!
That looks and sounds heavenly and what a perfect treat after an afternoon of sledding.
ReplyDeleteIt would be, wouldn't it?
DeleteReminds me of a hot fudge sundae, which I am more likely to be thinking of these days. I agree that the evenings have been chilly enough the past few to enjoy a mug of hot chocolate with all these trimmings. Weren't mothers who made hot chocolate from scratch (and usually cookies, too, or at least cinnamon toast) the best?! (I remember the year it snowed on the 2nd of July while my poor children nearly froze to death wearing their summer short sets. We were on our way to the closing program at VBS. It didn't last long, thank goodness.)
ReplyDeleteThe snow! Not the VBS closing program, though they were notorious for lasting too long. Ha!
DeleteOh, that is funny!
DeleteOh yes, mothers who made hot chocolate, cookies, and/or cinnamon toast were definitely the best.
DeleteMr. T and the grands encountered snow in Lamoille Canyon in northeastern Nevada a couple weeks ago. They slid down on it!
Yummy! Yesterday morning we woke up to a temp of 71 degrees - unheard of in July in the desert. I opened all the doors in the house to catch the "cool" air. I guess that was my cool day in Arizona! haha
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Vicki! We were in Arizona a couple weeks ago and encountered a temperature of 117º! Insane. I could never live out there.
DeleteSounds delicious! I used to host Christmas in July Art Parties where we would listen to Christmas music and sip hot chocolate with peppermint sticks as stirrers while we started our Christmas projects!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to ready your Christmas in July posts!!
Oh, that sounds like such a fun idea for a July get-together, Linda!
DeleteSounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it?
DeleteOh my this sure sounds good!! I think I'll add a cherry to my next hot cocoa
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a good idea, Lucie!
